Sponsorship and Community
Salmat is committed to doing business in a socially responsible and sustainable manner. We strive to create an environment where people enjoy coming to work and contribute to the community at a local, national and international level.
Through Salmat Activate, employees are able to contribute to nominated charities. Salmat is also continually seeking to reduce our environmental impact, which means that you are not alone when trying to save the environment.
Payroll giving and donations
Salmat Activate was developed as part of Salmat's commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility. It gives everyone within Salmat the opportunity to contribute to the broader world in which we live and work in a positive and meaningful way.
Right now, Salmat Activate are supporting the following organisations:
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. Using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, the RFDS delivers extensive primary health care and 24-hour emergency service to country Australia.
The RFDS provides emergency evacuations throughout rural and remote Australia for people who are seriously ill or injured and require urgent medical attention. They provide quality medical treatment on the ground, and use a dedicated aircraft when needed to transport patients to an appropriate hospital for any further treatment.
Rural and remote Australia is characterised by small, widely dispersed populations – and a lack of easy access to primary health care services. The RFDS works to overcome this, providing regular fly-in fly-out GP, nursing and allied health clinics to rural and remote communities.
In many of the locations where these clinics are provided, the RFDS is the only provider of healthcare services. As a result, the RFDS delivers health care services to the people and families throughout their whole lives. In 2015/16, the RFDS facilitated 14,432 clinics and saw 283,188 patients.

The Outback Car Trek is an annual event, held to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. The week-long event traditionally finishes on the NSW June long weekend each year, with the exception of every five years, when Salmat runs a 10 to 12 day event.
To date, the trek has raised in excess of $25.5 million for the RFDS to date. Participants, or “trekkers” as they are known, can enter a car by themselves of group together with friends and enter multiple cars. Not only do trekkers raise money for a worthwhile cause, they have a great time doing it.

Salmat has in place an annual scholarship, established to support rural and especially indigenous students attending the University of NSW Business School. The Salmat scholarship in business is valued at $20,000 and will assist with the cost of on-campus accommodation for up to three years for high-achieving undergraduate students.
