What are the benefits of Magento 2?
Salmat's eCommerce agency, Netstarter, offer up some special insights into how Magento 2 benefits merchants and customers.

So you’re still not convinced. What are all these bigger, faster, stronger features that everyone keeps talking about?
Bigger. Magento 2 pulls down previous obstacles to growth, allowing your business to expand with more products reaching the hands of more customers.

Faster. The new platform is at least 20 per cent faster than Magento 1 with a completely new architecture that improves scalability – as your business grows, performance will not slow down.

Stronger. Magento 2 is not an upgrade. It’s a full-scale re-platforming that can process more than 2 million page views and 250,000 orders per hour. In fact we are yet to find the upper limits of this platform.

Magento 2 is building on years of experience dealing with the good and the bad in Magento 1. Performance and management improvements make the interface easier to use, and they better support the features that will make your job as an online merchant easier to navigate.

Server side features

By partnering with Varnish, Magento 2 significantly improves the core caching while supporting a better caching solution. This optimises catalogue rendering while making menu options available without leaving the server.

Database scale

As business grows, Magento 2 allows the merchant to split out databases in order to streamline more requests. Traditional grouping into one database on a single server means requests during high volume trading, such as sales, can slow each other down. The split server allows multiple avenues for database support for products, order management and checkout.

Content scaling

On the product end, merchants have increased capacity to grow the number of individual SKUs any one website supports.

New admin interface

Magento has now introduced responsive design as part of their overall offer, and made it available through their Admin, which now also renders on mobile.

The new Admin also features customisable grids for better control on product filters, and the ability to remove and re-order columns along a grid.

Product creating and rich content

Product creation is faster because of server side changes. Rich content means faster rendering out of the database. Although this has always been a Magento feature, Magento 2 makes the process less demanding in the backend, with much more efficient response times thanks to new guided product creation workflow and integrations with YouTube and Vimeo.

Import/export improvements

Running out the product exports during sales used to be a significant problem for the server. Now those loads have been reduced, making imports and exports easier to manage, as well as increasing the functionality. It can import 100,000 records in 20 minutes while exporting the same amount in six minutes.

Customers will benefit

Magento 2 still has the brand’s signature flexibility, allowing merchants to create the unique shopping experience that customers look for. It also comes with some fantastic new features.

Client side features

One of the biggest client side changes is the improvement to checkout features. Magento has reworked the way the checkout renders in Magento 2 to be much more efficient, and it allows multiple products to be added to the cart much faster. Merchants can now process a cart with more than 300 line items.

This search tool indexes all the information a merchant needs to quickly and efficiently provide data against any customer query. It is a significant improvement that allows for the support of synonyms and stop words, and it supports 33 languages out of the box.

Enhanced CMS

At the end of 2016, Magento acquired Bluefoot, the host of its popular CMS and page builder module, which is expected to integrate directly into Magento coding for upgrade version 2.3. Improvements to the management interfaces streamline searches in the Admin, set up search synonyms and create new content. Previously, building and creating content was limited by the merchant’s ability to code, or required outsourcing.

B2B modules

With its commercial edition, Magento built a new release for merchants whose main customers are companies, or for B2C merchants to grow their B2B solution within the platform. The B2B function includes support and management of quote requests, as well as ordering shortcuts such as ordering by SKU, creating requisition lists and re-ordering.

Netstarter stack

For all the extensions you’re missing on top of that, Netstarter has you covered with the Netstarter Stack.

Netstarter has been working with the Magento 2 platform since the beginning. We’ve scouted out the features that our Australian and New Zealand merchants can’t live without and bundled them into our Netstarter Stack.

To make your Magento 2 migration as easy as possible, the Netstarter Stack <LINK> features eight essential modules to minimise any disruptions to business.

Ok. I’m convinced.
